Comments from Alumni
From Jim Weatherly, father of Matthew:
Congratulations Troop 48!
I have many fond memories of taking part in Troop 48 activities. My son, Matthew, and I enjoyed the many camp outs to places I had never heard of such as Pinnacle Mtn. State Park and Ouachita Forest. Matthew is living in Denver now and still camps out in the Rocky Mountains. More than that, we were privileged to be part of the great tradition of Troop 48.
I will be working today but just wanted to pass along my congratulations!
Jim Weatherly
From Tony Bertasi, father of two Eagle Scouts and former Troop Treasurer - 5/27/09 - Brian, I will be out of town on June 27th at a family wedding and will be unable to make the celebration. My heartfelt thanks to you and many others who have made Troop 48 so successful in helping so many young people. It has certainly made a lasting impact on the lives of Anthony and Elliot. Anthony is at UTK in pre-med and is taking classes in summer school in Knoxville. Elliot just graduated from GHS. He was VP of the Student Body and graduated 12th in his class of 403. He will be going to UTK on scholarship. He plans to go the law school. Best Wishes, Tony
From Newton E. Cook - 2/21/09 - Ed Provine and I have a long history at Troop 48....way back in the 50's....My dad was once Scoutmaster...Wonderful years and lots of good people.....I moved from Memphis in 1969 to Ohio for my job and lived there until I moved to Florida in 1997 to work awhile and then retire (my sons lived in Florida since the 1980's. I now live in Tequesta (45 Poplar Rd. Tequesta, FL 33469 phone 561/339/0243) which is about an hour north of Ft. Lauderdale to help you locate it...Watching my old college Memphis University play UTEP as I right this...and like a lot of old Troop 48 people, I an a South Side grad...and made my 50th reunion a year or so ago...Good to see the Troop is still doing good work.
